Dengue IgM antibody

The Dengue IgM Antibody test is a blood test used to detect recent infection with the dengue virus, a mosquito-borne flavivirus prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions. IgM antibodies are the first antibodies produced by the immune system in response to dengue infection and typically appear within 4–7 days after symptom onset. Detection of IgM indicates an acute or recent dengue infection. The test helps differentiate dengue from other febrile illnesses with similar symptoms such as chikungunya, malaria, or influenza. It is essential for early diagnosis, guiding clinical management, and preventing severe complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. The test is usually performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or rapid immunochromatographic methods. Results are interpreted alongside clinical findings and other laboratory parameters to confirm diagnosis and monitor disease progression.
