Complement – 3 (C3)

The Complement-3 (C3) test measures the level of complement component 3, a key protein in the immune system that plays a central role in inflammation and defense against infections. C3 is part of the complement system, which helps antibodies and phagocytic cells clear pathogens and damaged cells. Abnormal C3 levels can indicate immune deficiencies, autoimmune disorders, or ongoing infections. Low levels are often seen in conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or post-infectious glomerulonephritis, while elevated levels may occur during acute inflammation. Monitoring C3 helps assess disease activity and guide treatment.
