CEA – Carcino Embryonic Antigen

The CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen) test is a blood test used primarily to monitor certain types of cancers, especially colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, breast, and lung cancers. CEA is a protein normally present at low levels in adults but can rise when certain cancers are present. This test is not typically used for initial cancer diagnosis but is valuable in tracking treatment response, detecting recurrence, and monitoring disease progression. Elevated CEA levels can also occur in non-cancerous conditions such as smoking, inflammation, liver disease, or infections. Doctors interpret results alongside clinical findings and imaging studies to guide management and follow-up care.
