Calcitonin (Thyrocalcitonin)
The Calcitonin (Thyrocalcitonin) test measures the level of calcitonin, a hormone produced by the C-cells of the thyroid gland, in the blood. Calcitonin helps regulate calcium and phosphate metabolism by lowering blood calcium levels, inhibiting bone resorption, and promoting calcium deposition in bones. This test is primarily used to detect and monitor medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), a rare thyroid cancer originating from C-cells. Elevated calcitonin levels may indicate MTC, C-cell hyperplasia, or other thyroid disorders, while low levels are typically normal. It may also help evaluate response to thyroid cancer treatment and detect recurrence.Reports On : With 12 HoursSample Type : BloodFasting : Not Required Click Here To Book A Test
