CA – 19.9

The CA 19-9 test measures the level of carbohydrate antigen 19-9, a protein often found in higher amounts in the blood of people with certain cancers, especially pancreatic cancer. It is primarily used to monitor treatment response, detect recurrence, or assess disease progression rather than as a standalone diagnostic tool. Elevated levels can also be seen in other conditions such as liver disease, gallstones, pancreatitis, or bile duct obstruction. Normal reference values are usually below 37 U/mL, but results must be interpreted alongside imaging and clinical findings. The test is performed via a simple blood draw, and serial measurements help guide treatment decisions.
