Aldosterone

The Aldosterone Test measures the level of aldosterone, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps regulate blood pressure, sodium, and potassium balance. This test is often ordered when a person has symptoms such as high blood pressure, muscle weakness, low potassium, or suspected adrenal gland disorders. It is commonly used to diagnose conditions like primary aldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome), adrenal hyperplasia, or secondary causes of hypertension. The test may involve a blood sample or sometimes a 24-hour urine collection. Results are interpreted alongside renin levels to calculate the aldosterone-to-renin ratio, which provides greater diagnostic value. Preparation may include adjusting salt intake, medications, or posture before sample collection.
